Shelter: BC SPCA - Kamloops & District Branch Animal ID: 503295 Birthdate: June 07, 2019 - Young Adult Spayed/Neutered: Yes Female ** Multiple meets required! Meet Billy, she is an amazing girl and has so much potential. She would do best with a breed savvy, experienced dog owner that feels comfortable training, can understand dog body language and that doesn't mind a project! Typical breed traits; protective, smart, loves to work and learn but will get into trouble if bored. Not so typical; very fearful of strangers, especially men. Billie is on medication that helps her manage her anxiety. She will require this medication for the foreseeable future. Her defense is to scare people away when she first meets them. So she needs someone that is willing to take the time getting past that and continue to work with her in a managed and controlled environment. This may be an ongoing process. She cannot go to a home with children. Billie is still a puppy and requires a lot of training and fun confidence building exercises. She is mostly house trained but requires being let out frequently still, although has only had one accident in the foster home! Also in her foster home she is starting to learn things like recall, sit, stay, not to jump on counters (needs a reminder once in a while;) and what she can chew and what she cannot. She has warmed up so much to trust, touch and affection but it takes time and letting her come to you when she is ready. She has a lot of energy and it would be beneficial for her to go to a home with another energetic playful dog. Having existing dogs in the home will also help with your introduction as she gravitates to them and trusts them more then people. We have many dedicated shelter volunteers that have befriended Billie with the help of another canine buddy:) She will require time and patience but you will get back what you put in!
